This is a large black enamel and gold metal art deco compact made by Elgin American.

This compact was designed to hold powder. The cover is a beautiful and bold black enamel and gold metal with a geometric design.
There is a push button clasp and when opened reveals the clear mirror which is in great condition and there is a covered well for loose powder.
